DRIVERS LICENSE
Changing Your Address on a Driver's License -
In Florida, by law
you must notify the Driver License Division of a change of address
within 10 days of moving. You can change the address on your
non-commercial license by mail, phone, or online, or by visiting your
local office. If you're a commercial license holder, you will need to
apply for a change of address in person at your local office.
For all license updates, bring acceptable identification documents to
show proof of citizenship or legal presence.
- By Mail:
Download an Driver License or Identification Card Address Change Form,
fill it out, and mail it to: Bureau of Records P.O. Box 5775 Tallahassee, FL 32314-5775
Include a check or money order for $10, payable to Division of Driver
Licenses. Allow 30 days for processing.
- By Touch-tone Phone:
Call 1-866-GO-RENEW (467-3639) and follow the verbal instructions. The
fee is $10 plus a $2.90 convenience fee, payable by major credit card.
Allow two weeks or more for processing.
- On the Internet:
Visit GoRenew
and follow the instructions. The fee is $10 plus a $3 service charge,
payable online by major credit card. Allow two weeks or more for
processing.
- At Your Local HSMV Office:
Bring your current license with you and tell the examiner you wish to
change your address. The fee is $10 and, in many cases, the examiner
will be able to issue a new license immediately. Some larger offices may
require a processing time of two weeks or more.
If you have a driver license issued before July 1, 1997, you will
receive a change of address sticker to place on the back of your
license. If you have a digitized license (issued after July 1, 1997),
you will receive a new license instead of a sticker.
Florida law requires that you destroy your old license as soon as you
receive a new one.

- PROOF OF RESIDENCY
For most purposes, a utility bill with your name and address shown is
sufficient for proof of residency, however some employers may require
additional proof for newcomers. You can file a Declaration of Domicile
at the Clerk of Court.
- HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION
The Homestead Exemption is offered by the State of Florida and allows
you to reduce your property tax bill by claiming an exemption on the
first $25,000 of your home's value. You must file for the exemption by
March 1 of the year you are claiming the exemption. You must have
established residency in your home by Dec. 31 of the prior year. You may
prove residency with a voter registration card, a valid Florida driver's
license and titles and registration certificates for motor vehicles you
own. To prove that your residency was established in the required
timeframe, provide a recorded deed for the home or a vehicle
registration/title for a mobile home.
